Fun, games and creativity

A fun office is one way to ensure staff happy and loyal. It seems that not only are they more satisfied, but fun produces creative thinking staff and with this an innovative enterprise. This is reported in an interesting article in the July 12 BRW. As the article states “playing games and having fun may seem a frivolous pursuit but many of Australia’s leading companies are encouring staff to ‘waste time’ as a means of creating new products and services”. So much for a paperless office reducing the effects of climate change. Now your trusty PC is being blamed for the demise of the earth and all its living creatures. When your screen is white, being it an empty Word page, or the Google page, your computer consumes 74 watts, and when it’s black it consumes only 59 watts.

A great book by Edward de Bono ‘Tactics’ reveals the secrets of success. De Bono spoke with 50 men and women who have been outstandingly successful in a variety of fields. He says that this book is quite different to his others in that it doesn’t involve him defining the secrets, but rather he provides the framework into which the contributors offer their views. His views are to pull those of the successful individuals together. Continue reading…

Hallmarks of research

Puposiveness – There must be a definite aim or purpose for the research, usually focuses on the decisions for which information from the study will be. It is very important to clearly define the research objectives.
Rigour – Carefulness, scrupulousness and the degree of exactitude in research investigations. This requires a good theoretical base and a sound methodology for research. Without rigour, the subsequent hallmarks cannot be achieved. Continue reading…
